About Handcrafted Soap

Handcrafted soap is made in small batches, homemade, and it is actually SOAP. When you buy a bar of "soap" from the store, it is often called a "beauty bar" or a "deodorant bar", but not soap. Which is a good thing, because it's not soap at all, but a detergent. These harsh detergents contain processed chemicals, alcohol & synthetic preservatives, & quite often petroleum products. Some times it's not what's in the soap that counts, but what's not there. The component Glycerin, the best moisturizer for your skin, has been chemically removed. Handcrafted soaps retain their natural Glycerin, so it can benefit your skin. Many people find that they no longer need to use moisturizers for sensitive skin after using homemade soaps. In fact, not only have some of our customers ceased to use any other kind of soap, but they have skin they "want to have touched", saying that their skin hasn't felt this good in years. Just ask their husbands! (Or wives *wink*)

What's in our Soaps? 

Ingredients are listed on the packaging for your convenience. If you have food allergies, please use caution with soaps that may contain those food stuffs in the ingredients. Customers with severely sensitive skin have sworn by the gentleness of our unscented goats milk soap as the only type of soap they have found that caused no irritation, but skin is as individual as the person in it and your results may vary. If you experience sensitivity, rash, or irritation to a particular scent, please use common sence and discontinue use of that particular variation.  Our soaps are vegetable based, using the finest vegetable oils. These ingredients include olive oil, rice bran oil & shea butter for moisturizing. Palm, palm kernel & palm stearic for hardness. Coconut & palm kernel for lather. The finest in skin safe fragrance oils & essential oils for the luscious scents. As we stated, some soaps contain botanicals or oatmeal. All our soaps contain 6% shea butter. Whole goat milk from our farming friends right here in Central Wisconsin boosts the gentle cleansing of the Goat Milk Soap.

What's not in our Soaps? 

Lye. You won't find it in our soaps due to their handcrafted beginnings. When properly made and cured, soap will no longer contain lye. A chemical reaction takes the alkali ( lye ), water, goat milk, oils & fats and turns them into saponified oil, fats & glycerin, resulting in mild, pure, handcrafted soap. Our soaps are made in small batches and aged a minimum of 3 weeks to assure mildness.

Parabens.  We never have and never will use paraben in our products.  We have cancer survivors among our kin.  We wouldn't want it on our skin, we wouldn't expect you would either.  We believe in the power of a well informed consumer.  Do your homework.  We have.

Lard.  We are cruelty free!  As our soaps are vegetable based, you will not find Lard in our soaps, unlike many other recipes. We believe that no animal should give it's life to provide a bar of soap.  The only animal fat associated with our soaps is the milk fat. Our soaps are superfatted. This means they contain an excess of 5% more oils to moisturize your sensitive skin. We are the ginea pigs.  Every batch is carefully cataloged to ensure consitency and each batch will be tested on one of us first, but never on an animal. Our little goat friends agree that limiting our soap to milk fat and a "no animal testing policy" is something our soap can be proud about....no kidding!

How Should I Care for My Handcrafted Soaps?

Use a draining soap dish or rack. If the soap sits in water IT WILL MELT!  (Letting your soap slivers sit in water makes a liquid soap that works well for hands if you don't yet own a soap wallet.)  Also, keep your bars out of the direct stream of the shower head and they will last longer. Do NOT store your soaps in an airtight container. They must breathe. This will help them to dry out between uses and they will last much longer.

Can I eat this soap?

We have had someone take a taste, quite accidentally.  But no, it's not a good idea, even though some of our scents smell good enough to eat. The report was that even though it looked edible, and smelled edible, it still just tasted like ....well, soap

Will Handcrafted Soaps Keep?

Over an extended shelf life, the scents may fade. This is another reason why we go by the small batch method, and this is why we may from time to time, temporarily be out of stock on a particular scent. So, if you got that bar of soap for Christmas, and now it's Thanksgiving...two years later...and the smell has faded, don't worry. The gentle cleansing ability of the soap is still there, undiminished.  It just won't smell as yummy.  Use it up and try another delicious scent!
